Sharryn Smith is a UK-trained educator and therapist with over 30 years of experience supporting children with a wide range of Special Educational Needs. Her extensive background includes working with children presenting with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, as well as specific learning differences such as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
Sharryn holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology, with special focus on child development and social-emotional challenges, and a Master’s degree in Special Educational Needs, where her research explored literacy development in primary-aged children. She is also qualified in psychometric assessment and Access Arrangements (CCET/AAC), enabling her to provide cognitive, academic and ADHD screening to support children’s learning and educational planning.
With eight years’ experience as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) in UK and international settings, Sharryn has a deep understanding of inclusive education. Her career includes work in Pupil Referral Units supporting children with significant behavioural needs, as well as leadership as an Advanced Skills Teacher in Behaviour Management.
Now based in Egypt, Sharryn has also worked across Abu Dhabi, Sweden, Qatar and Jordan, bringing a rich multicultural perspective to her practice.
As a Certified Play Practitioner, Sharryn offers play therapy for children aged 4–12 years who may be experiencing challenges such as attachment issues, trauma, anxiety, or family-related difficulties. She follows a Child-Centered Play Therapy model, creating a safe, nurturing space where children can express themselves freely and begin to process their emotions through play.
In addition to her educational and therapeutic training, Sharryn is a Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach, supporting children and families in understanding the connection between nutrition and wellbeing.
Sharryn is a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Academy of Play and Child Psychotherapy (APAC). Her professional practice is grounded in empathy, respect and the belief that every child can thrive when given the right support and understanding.
